Phase one of The Pacifica completed ahead of schedule
Foundation piling has been completed on The Pacifica, a new 57-storey residential tower being built on Commerce Street in Auckland’s CBD.
Set to be one of the tallest buildings in New Zealand at 178 metres, The Pacifica is being built for well-funded developer Hengyi Pacific by tier one construction firm Icon Co, one of Australasia's high-rise unit specialists and the company behind numerous high profile developments in cities across Australia's eastern seaboard..
Icon Co's New Zealand General Manager, Dan Ashby, who has a wealth of high-rise construction experience having worked on well-known projects like the Burj Al Arab in Dubai and the Chancery in Auckland’s CBD, says great progress is being made.
“The piling work has been completed, with 57 piles in total going 25-30 metres deep into the ground. This was the first major exercise on The Pacifica and we’re running slightly ahead of time, which is really pleasing,” explains Ashby.

Update 20 November 2017
Lasers mark start of construction on The Pacifica
A series of multi-coloured laser lights illuminating the Auckland night sky over the last week has marked the start of on-site construction work on The Pacifica, a new 56-storey skyscraper being built on Commerce Street in Auckland’s CBD.
Created by SoulStorm Lasers, the same people responsible for the Sky Tower’s New Year’s Eve show over the last two years, the lasers are set up on site at 10 Commerce Street where site establishment works are underway.
Set to be the tallest residential tower in New Zealand, The Pacifica is being built for well-funded developer Hengyi Pacific by tier one Australian construction firm Icon Co, one of Australasia's high-rise unit specialists and the company behind numerous successful and high profile developments in cities across Australia’s eastern seaboard.
Construction is expected to be completed in 2020 – just in time for the next America’s Cup – and is being led by experienced Kiwi high-rise construction chief, Dan Ashby, who has worked on projects as well known as the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, Takapuna's Sentinel and the Chancery in Auckland's CBD.
Limited stock remains from the 282 apartments at The Pacifica, following launch earlier this year.
Update 14 October 2017
Commencement of construction looms for the Pacifica
Work is due to get underway soon on The Pacifica, a new apartment tower in the city centre and what will be New Zealand’s tallest residential building.
The Pacifica is to stand in Commerce St - close to Auckland’s waterfront, commanding panoramic views over Waitemata Harbour and Hauraki Gulf. The landmark development will also see the creation of Melbourne-esque laneway between Commerce, Fort and Gore Streets called Pacific Lane.
With 56-levels, and 178 metres high, The Pacifica will have 282 apartment units with a small boutique hotel located at the lower levels while a restaurant and café will be at the ground level.
Developed by Hengyi Pacific, amenities in the building include an indoor/outdoor lap pool, spa, sauna, gym, outdoor fitness deck, media room, library, residents’ lounge and barbecue terrace. Twenty-four-hour valet parking will also be available.
Liz Scott from Hengyi Pacific says the sheer size and scale of The Pacifica will ensure it becomes an iconic landmark for Auckland while also adding to the vibrancy of the city centre.
“We’re really looking forward to setting a new benchmark for luxury high rise living in the Auckland CBD. There’s so much great development happening in the city centre at present and we’re delighted to be a part of that and contributing to the economic growth of the area.”
Initial site works are expected to begin next month with the apartment tower expected to be completed by Q4 2020.
